About Materials Ireland

The Materials Ireland network was reconvened on the 23rd and 24th of April 2008 in the Hodson Bay Hotel in Athlone. Within Ireland, the community of materials researchers had been participating in a residual virtual network, from the former Materials Ireland PAT network, however the community had no formal framework. The Athlone event sought to address this by bringing together some of the prominent materials researchers and industrialists on the island. Most of the leading research groups on the Island had a representative keynote speaker and an important outcome was the formation of a new Materials Ireland Society and a committee, chaired by Prof. Roger Whatmore (Tyndall CEO) with Prof. Edmond Magner (Director MSSI) as Vice-Chair. Details of the committee can be found on the Contact page of this site. The committee met twice in 2008 and five times in 2009 to date.
